History

Rapp Advertising was founded in 1952 by Angelo Rapp, and located in leased office space at 30 Walnut Street, Newark, NJ across from City Hall. The agency’s first clients were Atlas Rapid Racks, a manufacturer of slip-on pipe fittings, and Rex Industrial Sewing Machines. In 1955, the company purchased a building on 30 Thirteenth Avenue, Newark, NJ, and in 1978 moved into leased office space in Union, NJ. At this time all artwork was still prepared by mechanical paste-up of type galleys, airbrush retouching, painted illustrations, marker layouts and other traditional methods. In 1983, the company moved into leased office space at 30 Commerce Street, Springfield, NJ, expanded its space in 1986, and in 1999, purchased the 9000 sq ft building, plus an adjacent property. By 2000, the company converted entirely to digital production, which reduced space requirements by half, prompting the sale of the building and a move to leased office space at 150 Morris Ave in Springfield, where the company remained until the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.  By then all operations had long been paperless, so working remotely proved effortless for all personnel, who still work remotely. However, the company maintains a conference room and 10 workstations at a 2400 sq ft office in Morristown, NJ for occasional client and staff meetings, and hardware redundancy.
